Hi I have made a new sidebar and when I insert the shortcode in the visual composer text block it doesn’t show.
I have added items to the newly created sidebar in the widgets section but I am not sure why it doesnt show up on the page.
I am tryiung to use the extension to build out the footer.
ThanksOctober 15, 2015 at 10:29 am #5289
To add shortcodes to WordPress text widgets, you have to add a filter in the theme code:
// Enable shortdoces in Text widget add_filter('widget_text', 'do_shortcode');
Most all themes do this so a lot of people think it’s a WordPress default that shortcodes work automatically in the Text widget. I can’t say for certain that this will fix the problem with Visual Composer. If it doesn’t, I’m guessing that no shortcodes will work in that area and so it’s a question for WP Bakery. If it’s only the sidebar shortcode created by our Extension, let me know and I’ll investigate more.October 15, 2015 at 10:39 am #5290
I might have completely misunderstood your question.
Can you show me the shortcode you’re using?
Do other shortcodes work in this text area of Visual Composer?October 16, 2015 at 9:00 am #5292
Hi yes other shortcodes work in VC for example the revolutions slider shows.
I am placing [sidebar alias="footerone”] in the text box but nothing shows.

Ok, that’s different. Sounds like it is specific to the Sidebars extension in this case.
If you could, try using the same shortcode but with single quotes like this:
This probably won’t fix it, but a recent change in the WordPress core had a big impact on shortcodes and sometimes doing little things like this can make a difference.
Can you tell me the version of Visual Composer you are running? I’ll try it with my own copy and see if there are any problems here. If it works for me using the same version, we will want to look at your setup specifically to see if anything is different there. We can dig into that after I’ve tested. I’ll post back here as soon as I’m done with the test.October 16, 2015 at 11:14 am #5294
I’ve confirmed the problem with the sidebar shortcode. What I’m seeing is that the shortcode isn’t working no matter where I place it, even on a standard WP page. We will need to update the extension. I’m working on this now and may have a fix ready this afternoon.October 16, 2015 at 11:18 am #5295
Ok Andy thanks so much (thought I was going crazy :))October 16, 2015 at 11:26 am #5296
P.S I have downloaded the newest version of runway. Now it says Please make sure the Bootstrap Navigation extension is active. Go to “Runway > Extensions” to activate.
In extensions none are found?
Hope you can help

If you overwrite the Runway install for the Bootstrap Starter (or any theme) with a clean Runway install, you must copy the extensions over. You basically deleted all the extensions.
Read the section “Child theme extensions” about making sure to copy them over if you update Runway:

I have found the problem with the sidebar shortcode and I’m about to make an update available. I’ll post another note here once it’s published.October 16, 2015 at 11:44 am #5299
You can download the update here: https://github.com/parallelus/Sidebars-for-Runway/archive/master.zip
This fixes the shortcode not working. Download the folder, extract it and replace the “extensions/sidebars” directory on your Runway install.October 16, 2015 at 3:27 pm #5300
Ok thanks a lot Andy will try it nowOctober 17, 2015 at 3:16 am #5301
Hi Andy that works a treat thanks again.
One more thing if I wanted to have social media icons where I have an options page to input the username url for the different social media platforms. How would I go about doing this?
I have seen in other themes that they have the option page to allow this. There are many plugins that have this feature. Am I able to use one of these plugins in my theme for Themeforest?
The plugins licence have stated I can.
